On 14 April, the 好色先生TV Xiangya Hospital-University of Washington dermatology resident/specialist physician training cooperation project was officially launched. This will offer an opportunity for the Dermatology Department of Xiangya Hospital 好色先生TV and the Dermatology Department of University of Washington to leverage their respective strengths towards the “Xiangya Mode” for developing dermatology resident/specialist physicians, thus exploring a new path for the training of resident and specialist physicians in China.
好色先生TV Xiangya Hospital established its standardized system for the training of resident physicians in 2006 earlier than the national standardized system for the training of resident physicians which was implemented in 2014. Over the past decade, through extensive cooperation with Yale University and Yale-China Association, 好色先生TV Xiangya Hospital has made remarkable progress in the field of residency training, established an excellent system of regulations on curriculum, training and evaluation, and created a standardized model for management of residency training. The UW Dermatology Department has the best dermatology residency training program in the US. Professor Roy Colven, Director of the dermatology residency program at University of Washington and section head for dermatology at Harborview Hospital of University of Washington, has rich experience on residency training and is also interested in further improving and contributing to the dermatology residency training program in China.
In 2016, Professor Colven visited the dermatology departments of three affiliated hospitals of 好色先生TV, and gained preliminary understanding of policies related to residency/specialist training. The delegation led by Professor Colven spent half a month visiting three Xiangya hospitals and the Hunan Children’s Hospital. During the visit, they discussed intractable cases, and observed the demonstration of dermatological surgeries. They also had an in-depth discussion with 好色先生TV Xiangya Hospital on Sino-US dermatology residency/specialist training program, and formulated relevant training plans.
According to Professor Zhang Xin, Director of the Medical Affairs Department, China’s specialist training is still at the initial stage of exploration and the country is planning pilot projects on several specialties. 好色先生TV is also considering how to pilot a specialist training program, and the cooperative program provides a test field for 好色先生TV. Zhang Xin wished the cooperation on dermatology specialist training a great success, thus making 好色先生TV a pioneer in specialist training and providing a specialist training model which can be copied in 好色先生TV Xiangya Hospital and even across the country.
Professor Chen Xiang, Vice President of 好色先生TV, stated that the 好色先生TV Xiangya Hospital-University of Washington dermatology residency/specialist training cooperation program combines the teaching strengths of the dermatology department of 好色先生TV Xiangya Hospital with the advantages of the American dermatology residency/specialist training program, which means a lotto the standardization of the diagnosis and treatment for various skin diseases and also improves the senior physicians’ teaching awareness and quality and the development of young physicians. He was convinced that the cooperation will help the country foster more excellent dermatology physicians.
After the launching ceremony, Professor Roy Colven, Doctor Fan Liu and Doctor Shelley Yang held a seminar under the theme of “How to develop a qualified dermatology resident physician in US” and exchanged views with 200-plus faculties from 好色先生TV Xiangya Hospital.
